The Beginning of a Dream
Our journey began in 2001 when we emigrated from Uruguay, carrying with us nothing more than three suitcases and a vision for a brighter future. Over the years, we worked tirelessly, saving every dollar with the hope of creating something that would bring people together and celebrate the vibrant cultures that make New York City so unique.
In 2019, we found the perfect opportunity: Kana Soho Bar. With our passion for hospitality and experience in the restaurant and nightlife industries, we knew this venue had the potential to become something extraordinary. After months of planning and dedication, we officially took over Kana Soho Bar in February 2020.
Overcoming Challenges Together
Just five weeks after opening our doors, the world changed. The COVID-19 pandemic forced us to temporarily close, and like so many others, we were faced with an unimaginable challenge. But in true Kana spirit, we turned the challenge into an opportunity.
By June 2020, we were cleaning the bar to return it to the landlord. The mounting debt was overwhelming, especially since we hadn’t even had the chance to rebuild Kana’s reputation after the previous owners, who, tired and ready to move on, had let the place decline over the last five years. But on that sunny day, as we opened the front doors to let in fresh air and played some music, something serendipitous happened. People walking by stopped to ask if we were open and serving drinks. That moment sparked a bold new idea.
Over the next week, we worked tirelessly to adapt to the new circumstances, learning the latest regulations, creating a to-go cocktail menu, and preparing Kana for reopening. The support from our community was overwhelming. Every day, more people stopped by, and Kana’s energy grew stronger. Within 11 months, we managed to recover 75% of our initial investment and strengthen Kana’s reputation as a vibrant and welcoming space.

From the moment you walk through our doors, you’re greeted with music, laughter, and a welcoming atmosphere that invites everyone to be part of our story. Our mission has always been to deliver exceptional service, create unforgettable experiences, and provide a stage for local talent to shine.

At Kana Soho Bar, we believe in constantly evolving to keep things fresh and exciting for our guests. One of our newest ideas is Guac & Chips Tuesdays, where we serve freshly made guacamole in unique flavors, paired with crispy chips and good vibes. It’s a delicious way to bring people together while putting a creative twist on a classic favorite.
We’re also passionate about creating unique experiences like our Glow in the Dark Lightshows, where dazzling visuals and music transport our guests into a world of fun and celebration. These events showcase the vibrant energy and creativity that Kana represents.
